FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Grand Challenge Open to Applicants from Canada (due 12-Feb-2016)

CRUK has announced a major new Grand Challenge funding scheme – a series of awards of up to £20M for five years, intended to stimulate a focused multinational, interdisciplinary research effort to tackle significant problems in cancer research, bringing in new thinking, innovation and technology from other disciplines and sectors. Grand Challenge is defined as “an approach to tackle one or more specific barrier(s) that, when removed, would help solve an important problem in cancer research and have significant potential for the benefit of cancer patients.” This opportunity is open to applicants from a number of countries, including Canada.

Each team must have a strong UK component with at least 25% of the award being spent in the UK and include a principal Investigator (UK or overseas), up to seven co-investigators (UK or overseas) from recognized academic institutions or for-profit companies. Teams are expected to be interdisciplinary and include a patient advocate. Applicants are also encouraged to consider the balance of gender and career-stage within their teams. Commercial collaboration is encouraged.
